For an extended period of time I have been working with the IBM Content manager product and it has provided value. Citi has adopted it as one of the “Standard” solutions for the organization world-wide. One of the major challanges that all products have is a ObR (Object by Reference) access, meaning that images are stored on a file location and the database provides a reference ID that allows the image to be located and retrieved for business process action. The problem with this approach is that images on the reference location sometimes come-up missing and that data therefore is lost and will require recovery action to occur. I have long been an advocate of moving from a Object by Reference towards a embedded object approach. That being a image is stored in the database along with the metadata related to the image.
My question is has anyone ever attempted to leverage this type of usage for business process and if so would you be willing to discuss in a level of detail.
